How much car insurance do I need from Amica?

Part of your responsibility as a driver is determining how much car insurance you need. This means there are several things you need to consider to ensure you choose the right car insurance company and the right coverage.

Here’s what to consider when determining how much car insurance coverage to purchase:

  • Coverage options. Depending on your state, you’ll purchase the minimum required coverage, but additional coverage can offer you the financial protection you need.
  • Coverage amounts. Coverage amounts determine how much Amica will pay in the event of an accident, so you want to ensure you have enough coverage to keep you protected in any scenario.
  • Cost of policy. Coverage types and limits factor into the cost of your policy, so you’ll want to confirm your rates and whether or not you can afford it.
  • Deductible. If you opt for collision and/or comprehensive coverage, you’ll have to pay a deductible before insurance repairs or replaces your vehicles, so it is best to choose a deductible you can afford.

Remember, Amica offers various discounts, so whether you choose to have minimum or full coverage, you may be able to catch a break on your premium.

Amica Add-On Car Insurance Coverage Options

Amica offers the following add-on car insurance coverage options:

  • Auto/Loan Lease Coverage. Also known as GAP insurance, it pays the difference between the vehicle’s value and the remaining amount owed on the loan or lease. Available to drivers with collision and comprehensive coverages and must be added within 30 days of the lease or purchase date.
  • Full Glass Coverage. Pays for repair or replacement of your auto glass with no deductible.
  • Roadside Assistance. Also known as towing and labor coverage, it pays for emergency roadside assistance, including towing, jump-start, gas delivery, and flat-tire change.
  • Rental Reimbursement. Pays for the cost of a rental car, rideshare, taxis, buses, and trains following the loss of transportation resulting from an accident.

If you buy any of these add-ons to supplement your Amica auto insurance policy, you will see your rates go up.

Amica Platinum Choice Auto

Amica Platinum Choice Auto offers drivers certain insurance coverages in a convenient package, which includes the following:

  • Credit and identity fraud monitoring. Monitors credit files and personal information to deliver timely alerts regarding any unusual activity.
  • New car replacement. Replaces a totaled vehicle with a new one if the vehicle is less than one year old with no more than 15,000 miles.
  • Glass repair or replacement. Replaces or repairs auto glass without chagrin drivers a deductible.
  • Prestige rental coverage. Covers the cost of a rental car similar to your damaged vehicle, up to $5,000, with no daily limit.

Each coverage option included in the Platinum Choice Auto package can be added to your policy as an individual add-on, but you will see a rate increase.

Does Amica offer any other special services?

Unfortunately, Amica lacks some of the programs you might find at other insurance companies. For example, Amica does not offer pay-per-mile insurance or a usage-based insurance program.

Amica also does not offer rideshare insurance. If you drive for Uber, Lyft, or another rideshare service, you must purchase rideshare insurance from a different auto insurance company.

Amica Mutual Insurance Company Insurance Rates Breakdown

Auto insurance rates vary between car insurance companies due to many factors, including the driver’s gender, age, location, type of vehicle, and more.

We compared Amica car insurance rates to other providers based on various driver profiles to help you better understand what you could pay and how things such as age and driving record can impact your rates.

Factors Impacting Amica Auto Insurance Rates

Insurance companies require customers to submit certain information when purchasing car insurance.

Amica uses the following to determine if a driver can be insured and calculate their insurance rates:

  • Age. The older the driver, the more experienced they are with driving, meaning they are less likely to file a claim.
  • Gender. Female drivers are less likely to file claims compared to male drivers.
  • Vehicle. Vehicle year, make, model, safety features, previous ownership, and repair costs.
  • Mileage. Drivers with low annual mileage are less likely to cause an accident because they do not get behind the wheel often.
  • Credit score. Credit score predicts the likelihood of a driver filing a claim, so a high score means a driver is safe and probably won’t be involved in an accident.
  • Location. Most states have a minimum coverage amount drivers must carry, but vandalism, theft, accident rates, vehicle storage location, and type of area (urban or rural) are also important.
  • Driving record. Driving records include details regarding years of experience, traffic violations, and accidents.
  • Coverage type. Type of auto insurance coverage, coverage limits, and deductible amount.

Rating systems vary, so it is common for these factors to impact your premiums differently depending on the car insurance company.

Teen driver car insurance rates tend to be higher than any other demographic due to their inexperience.

Amica Auto Insurance Rates for Adult Drivers

Young adult drivers who choose Amica will often see lower rates than teen drivers because they have gained experience. Young adult drivers have access to certain discounts with Amica. So even though their rates aren’t as low as adult drivers, they can still save on their monthly rates.

Similar to young adults, adult drivers often have several years of driving experience, making them less likely to file a claim. As a result, their rates are lower than rates for teen and young adult drivers.

Good coverage, bad customer service

I was with Amica for over 13 years. I had one accident in that time, and, while my coverage was great, customer service was generally unhelpful. I'm trying to resolve an issue (that their poor customer service caused) now that my policy has been cancelled, and customer service is even worse. I've been told I'll receive call-backs and haven't received them, and agents are completely unwilling to even try to help. I haven't made many calls to them ...

I've been told I'll receive call-backs and haven't received them, and agents are completely unwilling to even try to help. I haven't made many calls to them in the last 13 years, but they always seemed like they couldn't get off the phone fast enough unless they were trying to sell me something.

Discussed and Hurt

We have been a loyal customer of Amica auto insurance for at least 13 yrs. Our First and only claim happened in Dec 2021. The accident happened out of state so we are made arrangements to get our personal belongings ($1800+). And some sentimental items out of the vehicle. On at least 3 separate calls the Amica representatives told my wife not to go because of the distance and they will send a Rep to the vehicle and everything in the trunk and inside the vehicle will be placed in boxes and mailed to us. They assured us that they have done this for customers for years and we had nothing to worry about and we will be getting our belongings. Well one month later we got an envelope with 5 minor items. We have been lied to over and over and have taken another major lost. We are beyond discussed and hurt.

Reprehensible, criminal practices

This company’s business practices are beyond reprehensible and criminal. My husband, having been a loyal customer, for much over a decade, with both cars and home ensured by Amica, called to understand what it might cost in the future, if he were to insure his teenage boy, once he gets a license. We knew the child may be insured through either one of the parents, and we didn’t decide at this point in time how we would want to proceed. The cu...
The customer rep, without prior notice, proceeded to ask some information about the child, then quoted 3000 dollars for the yearly insurance. He then proceeded to tell us that once the child gets a license, he will be automatically added to the insurance policy, without prior consent from the policy owner. We explain that we explicitly prohibit him from adding the child to the policy, since there will be other ways we are looking at ensuring him. The clerk proceeded to tell us that there was nothing we could do about this, and that we will be charged and the child will automatically be put on the existing policy - since the clerk was able to get a hold of identification information for the child, from us. Of course my husband lost it. And the clerk simply hang up. Needless to say, they are now losing our business, and hopefully additional business in the future. I don’t know in what world, an organization is legally able to force someone to pay 3000 dollars for services they refuse to buy from them, while also stripping them of any human dignity, by telling them there’s nothing they could do about it. The call was recorded. This has got to make a great case for litigation.

Don't trust Amica to give you good rates.

In Nov. of 2020 I received a notice of cancellation on my Home Owners and Umbrella policy. Both these policies were on auto pay from a bank that I have had an account with for more than 30 years. The account never has a balance less than $70,000. To date Amica has not been able to explain how this happened. In July of this year I decided I had better make a complete review of all my accounts to see what what going on. I found that my new Jee...
In Nov. of 2020 I received a notice of cancellation on my Home Owners and Umbrella policy. Both these policies were on auto pay from a bank that I have had an account with for more than 30 years. The account never has a balance less than $70,000. To date Amica has not been able to explain how this happened. In July of this year I decided I had better make a complete review of all my accounts to see what what going on. I found that my new Jeep was showing a load from some outfit in NC. I live in KS and purchased and paid cash for the vehicle. Again no explanation from the agent as to how this happened. I also found that when Amica changed their policies from 12 months to 6 months they increased the premium on one of my vehicles 54%. Since the other vehicle was new I could not make a direct comparison but noticed that it was 16% higher than what I was paying for the 3 vehicles previously on the policy plus that was with 3 drivers on the policy. All conversations with the agent about these issues net no explanation as to why these this were happening. Brief shopping around with other reputable insurance companies resulted in annual policy savings in the $3,000 and $4,000 range. I would not consider Amica to be a reputable insurance company an proves the point that you should check rates with other companies regularly. You can't trust any of them, let alone Amica.

great service

They were the best price by far but also the most comprehensive. The coverage was better at a lower rate. The agents were wonderfully personal and responsive.

Amica is a great company...

I have had only great experiences with Amica. Their customer service was excellent and they helped me right away after I had my car accident, giving me a rental car without question of fault. Very affordable, even for full coverage. They've been an awesome insurance company to have for my vehicle, and as soon as I start driving again, I'll be sure to call them first!
